The NT4 Ortho-Urology Surgical Unit is a 41-bed unit specializing in the care of acute orthopedic and urology surgical patients. The unit is DNV certified for hip and knee replacement surgeries. Patients on this unit include limb trauma patients and low acuity medical patients. As Carle is a level trauma center, most regional trauma patients are admitted to this unit. The unit is fast-paced and highly collaborates with physical and occupational therapists. The average length of stay is a maximum of three days, allowing staff to experience the entire recovery process. The team focuses on providing the best and safest care to the community, with patients appreciating the kind and positive reassurance from the staff. Resources for the unit include a full-time educator, part-time educator, 2 nurse supervisors, a manager, and charge nurses. When the unit is full, the LPN will work with RNs with the highest acuity or be paired with an RN who has a heavy patient load. When the UNL has patients, the LPN will be paired with the UNL to assist with the UNL patient load.
