This position involves monitoring and supervising direct care staff (C.N.A.) in their health-related duties, providing education and counseling as needed, and conducting staff meetings and in-services. The Charge Nurse will consult with the Nursing Supervisor/Unit Managers on issues and perform daily rounds on high-risk residents or those with wounds for brief changes and turning & repositioning. The role may also involve acting as Unit Manager, covering Assisted Living Units or any Nursing Unit, observing and evaluating residents' physical and emotional status, assessing resident needs for physicians and specialists, and implementing physician's orders. Responsibilities include monitoring unit cleanliness, ensuring proper equipment storage, completing all required documentation (incident/accident reports, charting, referrals, assessments, admissions, shift reports, medication/treatment documentation), documenting resident behaviors, and updating health changes via nursing notes and shift reports. The Charge Nurse will also verify medication accuracy with the pharmacy, prepare and administer medications and treatments, manage unit medications and equipment, maintain a neat work area, monitor and request necessary nursing supplies, ensure medication refrigerators are up-to-date, assist with in-house activities, coordinate with activity staff, and ensure proper safety measures are followed. Additionally, the role involves monitoring the cleanliness and working order of resident items like dentures, glasses, and hearing aids, and reporting needed repairs.
