This role supports medical providers and performs clinical duties such as welcoming visitors and patients, taking medical histories, assisting providers during exams, phlebotomy, collecting lab specimens, basic lab testing, preparing and administering injections and vaccinations, and organizing and stocking medical supplies. The LPN will help patients feel at ease in the health center office and often explain the provider's instructions. They will also perform administrative duties such as maintaining general office organization, ensuring confidential medical records security, handling correspondence, and maintaining a pleasant and sanitary environment. This role requires flexibility and adaptability to assure consistent and seamless high-quality customer service.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in nursing or equivalent degree and 3+ years of work experience as an LPN/LVN in a hospital, medical clinic or comparable environment.
  • LPN or LVN Certification.
  • Phlebotomy Certification.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, practical nursing theories and policies.
  • Understanding of the ethics of confidentiality/HIPAA.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer experience and knowledge of Electronic Health Records Systems (Athena preferred) and using Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to operate in a constantly evolving and fast-paced environment.
  • A proven record of successfully working with stakeholders/clients, guests, and vendors.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • High level of critical thinking, and creative and effective problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with occupational health strongly preferred.
  • Experience handling general office procedures, confidential files, and operating general administrative office equipment.
  • Can effectively act as a liaison between patients and providers.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting medical histories (diagnosed medical conditions, medications, allergies, hospitalizations, etc.) and preparing patients for examinations.
  • Collecting and recording vital signs accurately.
  • Relaying urgent requests and emergencies to the provider as appropriate.
  • Collecting data and addressing immunization status of employees.
  • Coordinating ordering of lab tests and immunizations when needed.
  • Tracking compliance with initial and annual employee health requirements as directed.
  • Informing the provider of any renewals and areas of concern.
  • Assisting in monitoring employees who have a work injury or contagious illness.
  • Contacting the provider immediately if conditions change for quick reassessment.
  • Instructing patients about medication and special diets, providing brochures and literature, and explaining treatment procedures to patients as directed by the provider.
  • Providing outstanding customer service, patient care, and overall concern for patient well-being and safety.
  • Assisting the physician during examinations.
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens and appropriate paperwork.
  • Performing basic laboratory tests.
  • Preparing medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections—including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant).
  • Transmitting prescription refills as directed.
  • Performing phlebotomy.
  • Providing wound care and changing dressings.
  • Following HIPAA guidelines for patient confidentiality.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory of valid and unexpired medical and general supplies, ordering as needed.
  • Keeping rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, washing and drying instruments used, and preparing sterilization as required.
  • Ensuring medical storage systems such as lab storage, vaccine storage, medication dispensary, etc., are well organized, labeled, safe, and sanitary.
  • Aiding providers in fitness for duty examinations and pulling medical records and necessary documentation for appointments and assessments.
  • Providing assistance to Providers and RNs to handle work-related documents such as injury reports, Worker's Compensation and benefits forms, etc.
  • Assisting with authorizations and referrals.
  • Assisting with immunization programs and administering vaccines.
  • Partnering with providers, clients, and other departments within Marathon Health to help with employee wellness programs and promotions, safety days and events, fitness fairs and incentive programs, etc.
  • Reviewing Athena workflow updates and communicating to the team as appropriate.
  • Providing general office administration including welcoming patients, answering telephones and voice mails, answering questions and providing resource materials and documents.
  • Monitoring and maintaining general office organization, supplies, furniture, and equipment.
  • Ordering office supplies as needed.
  • Contacting IT for computer and software issues.
  • Communicating any housekeeping, facility (light bulbs, etc.) and maintenance needs to the appropriate contact.
  • Scheduling/rescheduling appointments according to office hours and provider availability.
  • Updating, maintaining chain-of-custody and security of confidential files, and filing patient medical records according to protocol.
  • Handling correspondence, coding and completing medical (such as HIPAA) and billing forms.
  • Serving as a participant and general coordinator of special events (health fairs, classes, immunization clinics, etc.) as communicated by event coordinators.
  • Communicating center and logistics issues to the event coordinators for instruction on adaptation, obtaining materials, etc.
  • Maintaining office literature, bulletin boards, signage, etc., and ensuring presentation is professional in appearance, up-to-date, and according to Marathon Health branding standards.
  • Ensuring the center maintains a pleasant environment, MH branding, safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards are met to the highest quality.
