About The Position

Under direct supervision, conducts routine tests in clinical laboratories for use in treatment and diagnosis of diseases. Prepares specimens for microscope examination using standard techniques and equipment. Performs testing and reports test results in urinalysis, hematology and chemistry. Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Prepares slides as necessary for microscopic analysis in hematology. Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. Follows quality control policies and documents quality control activities. Maintains instruments and equipment. Calls critical values to providers per policy. Resolves pending reports at end of shift. Communicates to day shift any issues/problems to address. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Eligible for ASCP or AMT certification required.
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures (chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, etc.) within field.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to common inquiries or complaints from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, Internet navigation, database management, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, and graphic presentation packages.

Nice To Haves

  • MLT Certification preferred
  • Associate degree in related field preferred.
