About The Position

Park Nicollet is looking to hire LPNs, Medical Assistants, and EMTs to join our Primary Care team! As a part of our team, you will be providing care for patients which may include the following duties: Escorting patients to exam rooms and appropriately documenting necessary visit information and vitals such as height, weight, and blood pressure. Preparing and administering medications, and immunizations as directed by a clinician, RN or following standing orders. Perform and assist with procedures and treatments as directed by the clinician, such as administering, ear lavage, EKG’s, and bladder scans. Ensuring all the components are of the standard rooming process are completed including medication reconciliation and pending refills, allergy review, immunization reconciliation, completion of appropriate forms and questionnaires to support clinical quality. Maintaining knowledge of, and complying with, all relevant laws, regulations and policies, procedures, and standards. This position is responsible for a variety of patient care duties and other related duties in the clinical setting. Under the supervision of a physician/provider/Registered Nurse, this position performs documentation of medical information, administration of medications/immunizations and treatments, as well as obtaining medical histories, vital signs, etc. The clinic assistant assists the Health Care providers in the timely delivery of services per physician/RN direction and according to Clinic polies and procedures. All programs and activities are designed to support the short and long term mission, vision, goals, and objectives of Westfields Hospital & Clinic.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program OR Graduate of EMT Training program OR Licensed Practical Nurse Program
  • Current BLS Certification or obtain within 3 months of hire
  • EMT license OR Wisconsin LPN License
  • This role requires a BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required and maintained. On-line BLS certification is not acceptable.
  • Must meet one of the following: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing. Must maintain a current state license of practical nursing. OR Medical Assistant (MA): Graduate from a Medical Assisting program accredited by “The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): Graduate of an accredited EMT program and current Minnesota EMT License

Nice To Haves

  • At least 6 months recent (within the last 3 years) experience in a direct patient care setting
  • If staff obtain certification for Medical Assistant within 6 months, job code will be updated when certification is obtained.
  • Experience with electronic medical record system preferred (EPIC)
  • One or more years of healthcare experience is desirable (preferably in a related field of medicine).

  • Consistently greets and utilizes our standard rooming process to room patients in a timely manner.
  • Organizes and contact Patient Access Department to make adjustments as needed to daily schedule and ensures appointment access to patients with acute needs for optimal patient care.
  • Assists patients needs such as walking, transferring, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, paper work completion.
  • Follows all Standard Processes. Completes Pre-Visit planning on all scheduled visits.
  • Prepares/set-up exam/treatment rooms for patient and provider needs. Preps patient for medical interventions and assist provider/physicians as needed.
  • Consistently and accurately obtains patient history, and follows standard rooming process.
  • Completes all required screening forms, risk assessments, and other required items for visit type.
  • Under direct supervision of provider/RN administers medication, treatments and immunizations.
  • Relays relevant patient information to physician/provider; responds to patients per provider’s instructions.
  • Communicates concerns relating to patient and/or staff to immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Follows all steps in Inbasket and Refill standard process.
  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include providing a competent approach to communication and professional interactions with all employees, providers and patients.
  • Responds to urgent/emergent situations in the clinic space.
  • Facilitate quality improvement initiatives, projects and department/committee meetings.
  • May rotate among various departments within the clinic and to other clinic locations.
  • Acts independently within scope of a medical assistant/EMT/RMA.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Create and support a culture of patient safety. This is demonstrated by identifying good catches and reporting of safety events.
  • Understands and is able to seek out assistance in dealing with age specific populations.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.
