Requirements

  • High School Graduate, or equivalent
  • Medical Assistant Certificate required
  • OR graduate of an accredited program of practical nursing with current licensure in the state of Ohio
  • Maintains and upgrades own professional development and necessary certifications (CPR, CAT, BAT, etc.)
  • Possesses or willing to obtain CAT (certified audiometric technician) and BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) certification and keep each current every 5 years.
  • All certifications will be completed at the need of the department.
  • Must be currently certified in CPR, and maintain certification.
  • Ability to operate EKG machines.
  • Ability to perform blood pressure, pulse, respirations and temperature readings.
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy.
  • Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and handle sensitive telephone and face-to-face inquiries.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds with assistance and be mobile.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Phlebotomy and EKG experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform chain of custody urine drug screens preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receives authorization for services, checking for special instructions.
  • Greets patients, confirms identification, and introduces self.
  • Prepares room, equipment, and materials for patients.
  • Prepares patients and explains procedures for treatment, phlebotomy, and/or EKG.
  • Maintains necessary certifications for clinic skills and learns new skills as needed/requested (e.g., vision and hearing testing, drug screen collection, breath alcohol testing).
  • Administers intradermal and intramuscular injections after passing competencies.
  • Answers telephone using proper etiquette and relays messages promptly.
  • Greets and directs patients and clients, answering questions courteously and professionally.
  • Applies knowledge of patient age-specific needs and modifies care accordingly, primarily for adults and geriatrics, occasionally for adolescents and children.
  • Transports patients if necessary.
  • Schedules testing as necessary.
  • Performs office procedures accurately in the absence of clerical personnel.
  • Performs all clerical functions when not performing technical procedures.
  • Maintains stock supplies for assigned room or work area.
  • Works flexible shifts in the clinic and off-site at companies.
  • Assists with clerical functions and special projects as requested by the coordinator/manager.
