The LPN/LVN provides nursing care to Sisters, Friars, and a Brother living in a facility with independent, skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care levels. Residents may have CHF, hypertension, diabetes, a history of stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or total-care needs. Sisters may use either a religious name or birth name and choose which name they go by; they do not wear identification. Duties include administering tube feedings, checking blood sugars, administering insulin, vaccinations, and oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications, as well as conducting skin assessments. LPNs are expected to provide hands-on care and assist CNAs as needed, rather than focusing only on medication administration. The Director handles admissions, and residents generally remain at the facility for life, so there are no discharges. Charting is by exception. The facility has two LPNs covering memory care and skilled nursing, while also splitting coverage of assisted living; the stated maximum is 25 residents. The goal for day shifts is three LPNs per shift. Nurse aides are present. RNs serve as supervisor and assistant supervisor, with a supervisor planned for each shift or available through shift overlap. The schedule consists of eight-hour shifts: 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m., and 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m. Schedules rotate and may change to accommodate PTO or FMLA, so flexibility is requested. Weekend work is every other weekend; holiday work is required if needed. LPNs are trained on all units and expected to float throughout the building. Scrubs may be any solid color.
