About The Position
Under general supervision, the Licensed Practical Nurse provides preventive and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in an OU Health facility. The position is with the Hillcrest Infusion Center at Stephenson Cancer Center at Hillcrest in Tulsa. The LPN contributes to nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtaining vital signs, and provides care according to an established nursing plan. The role includes monitoring patients for significant changes and notifying supervisory personnel, performing specified routine care and procedures, and administering medications as permitted. An LPN may function as a surgical technologist if the position is in the operating room.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of education requirements for the NCLEX-PN examination.
- Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association upon hire.
- Current LPN license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate LPN license (eNLC).
- Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate the nursing needs of assigned patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist with nursing assessment by collecting data, observing patients, and obtaining vital signs.
- Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
- Observe changes in a patient’s condition and notify supervisory personnel of significant changes.
- Provide routine ostomy care; place and feed nasogastric tubes; and place and discontinue oral-gastric tubes.
- Initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
- Suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
- Administer oral, intravenous, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous, sublingual, vaginal, rectal, and topical medications, as applicable.
- Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist physicians during examinations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
