About The Position

Under the direction of the registered nurse, provides nursing care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement care, nursing interventions and procedures necessary as the patient progresses through the perianesthesia phase of care in order to achieve optimal patient outcomes, under the direction of the RN. Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to endure quality of care. Demonstrates knowledge for administering and recording of medications, can also demonstrate knowledge of commonly used medications: action, dose and side effects. Provides education and information to patients and family members. Contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by the RN. Observes patients and reports any abnormal findings to the RN. Performs clinical skills: dressing changes, NG tube placement, Foley placement, IV placement (if certified). Demonstrates knowledge in the care of the pediatric and geriatric population and their family/caregiver. Provides the safe transfer of care with a communication handoff to the other healthcare professionals. Function as a role model for current and new staff. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and attends all required training programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing preferred.
  • BLS certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills.
  • Current State Licensure
  • Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment.
  • Wears proper photo identification badge while on duty.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications.
  • Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
