About The Position

Outpatient MAT Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) seeking an LPN Dispensing Nurse for PRN hours. This role offers a lower-stress environment in medication dispensary with stable morning/day shifts, no heavy lifting, and the opportunity to help others in a recovery environment. The LPN is instrumental in patient treatment and recovery from opioid use disorder, providing high-quality, safe, and efficient dispensing of medication under the direction of the Medical Director or Physician. Responsibilities include accurate reporting and documentation of patient symptoms, responses, and progress.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current LPN license in the state of North Carolina, or compact license
  • There must be no history of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three years before employment

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of nursing experience in behavioral health, outpatient treatment program, or addiction recovery field
  • Previous nursing experience in addiction recovery or behavioral health settings, such as outpatient, residential, or correctional facilities, is highly preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), including the safe handling, administration, and documentation of methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone
  • Experience in medication dispensing, monitoring patient dosing, and observing for adverse reactions or medication interactions
  • Understanding of nursing best practices related to substance use treatment, including trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles
  • Accurate and timely documentation of medication administration records (MARs), patient vitals, and incident reports in accordance with state and federal guidelines
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., DEA, 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA, and Joint Commission standards) related to controlled substances and patient care
  • Proven ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, counselors, case managers, and support staff, to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care

Responsibilities

  • Works under the supervision of the Medical Director and the Clinic Director
  • Maintains practical nursing professional standards of care
  • Prepares and administers medication as ordered by the Medical Director or Program Physician accurately and in a timely manner
  • Maintains accurate accounting of all medication received (from supplier) and dispensed (to the patients)
  • Charts medication administration in nurse's notes accurately and in a timely manner
  • Documents nursing care provided, and maintains appropriate records related to patient’s progress and activities accurately and in a timely manner
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all medication stock and the records required by the DEA, FDA, and ADP
  • Dedicating a minimum of 90% of regularly scheduled work hours to activities directly related to the administration of medication; the remaining 10% will be dedicated to other activities as assigned
  • Responsible for urine collection and processing, reading test results as ordered by Program Physicians and the completion of all forms involved in these procedures
