The purpose of this position is to enforce the North Carolina Liquefied Petroleum Gases Law as mandated by Chapter 119, Article 5, of the General Statutes of North Carolina and Title 2, North Carolina Administrative Code, Chapter 38 .0700. This inspector will also enforce the North Carolina Weights and Measures Act of 1975 as it pertains to LP-Gas concerns. This position is responsible for the inspection and evaluation of equipment used in the storage, transportation, and distribution of liquefied petroleum (LP) gases to ensure compliance with applicable laws and established safety regulations. Core duties include examining cargo tanks and associated piping systems on transport vehicles to verify proper labeling, detect potential leaks, assess the functionality of safety devices, and evaluate the condition of hoses and flexible connectors. The inspector also assesses the condition and accuracy of delivery meter systems, performing adjustments when necessary to minimize measurement error. Additionally, the role involves inspecting metered LP‑gas dispensers to confirm that equipment is installed correctly, properly calibrated, free of leaks, and adequately protected from damage. The work requires operation of a truck that tows a trailer equipped with both a 100‑gallon and a 25‑gallon pressurized prover, which are utilized to test and verify the accuracy of various types of delivery meters. This position also responds to requests and consumer complaints concerning the placement and condition of LP‑gas containers at residential and commercial locations, potential safety violations, and instances of short filling during deliveries. The inspector is required to reside within the assigned work territory, which includes the following counties: Beaufort, Bertie, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Franklin, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Hertford, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, Vance, Warren, Washington, Wayne, and Wilson.
