About The Position

The Quad Preparatory School is seeking a Lower School Special Education Floating Support Staff member for the 2026-27 school year. This role is crucial in supporting classroom teams and students within our Lower School (grades K-5) campus. The floating support staff will provide instruction and social-emotional support, filling in for associate teachers and psychosocial teachers as needed. Our classrooms are designed to have ten or fewer students, fostering a personalized learning environment. Teachers in this role will benefit from mentorship, coaching, and support from clinicians and academic administrators, contributing to their professional growth in neurodiverse education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in elementary education (any subject area), special education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching children in grades K-5.
  • Love for working with children.
  • Strong background and interest in music.
  • Desire and ability to work with students with special needs.
  • Lesson planning and the ability to provide engaging and differentiated instruction.
  • Ability to connect with elementary school-aged children.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • A solid understanding of elementary-aged children’s academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ethical conduct.
  • Time management and the ability to multitask.
  • Teamwork and collaboration.
  • Patience and flexibility.
  • Utilize Google Suite, in particular Google Drive and Docs.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three years experience as a full-time teacher or teacher’s assistant.
  • Master’s degree in elementary education (any subject area), special education, or a related field.
  • Special education training, including training in the areas of gifted education and twice-exceptional youth.
  • Secondary (any subject) and/or special education teaching credential.
  • Experience teaching twice-exceptional youth.

Responsibilities

  • Support classroom teams and their students.
  • Fill in for associate teachers and psychosocial teachers to provide instruction and social-emotional support.
  • Follow directives of psychosocial and educational staff regarding individual student goals (e.g., self-regulation, impulse control, executive functioning).
  • Support individual classrooms and students in various ways as determined by the classroom team.
  • Empower students by providing scaffolding, modeling, materials, and resources, maintaining high expectations.
  • Facilitate projects and independent activities that nurture student talents and interests.
  • Lead small-group discussions and collaborations related to the academic curriculum and SEL curriculum.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times (snack, lunch, outdoor time).
  • Adhere to the professional code and policies of the school, promoting the school's mission and vision.
  • Utilize Google Suite, specifically Google Drive and Docs.
  • Complete clerical tasks such as data entry, photocopying, and designing bulletin boards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Attend all faculty and staff meetings, professional development sessions, and required special events.
