About The Position

Town School for Boys is a K-8 all-boys independent school located in San Francisco with approximately 427 students. The school seeks a full-time Physical Education teacher to join its Physical Education department, beginning in August 2026. This faculty member will be responsible for providing physical education instruction for four grades within Lower School (Grades K-4), assisting with outdoor studies classes once per week, and helping cover occasional Upper School physical education classes. This role will work in partnership with the Director of Athletics to plan lessons and, on occasion, co-teach classes to support a smooth transition and curricular alignment. School-wide responsibilities include recess and lunch supervision, as well as grade-level and faculty meetings. Town School’s physical education program encourages students to experience the benefits and enjoyment of physical activity and to discover the value of personal wellness as part of daily living. The program aims for students to make responsible and thoughtful decisions relative to their personal health habits and practices in high school, college, and throughout their lives. The curriculum also teaches the rules and fundamentals of many sports throughout the school year, with students eventually playing these games in a controlled setting where teamwork and sportsmanship are emphasized. The school hopes to find a candidate with the skills and imagination to connect physical education class to the boys’ lives, one who values shepherding boys through their development through their lower school years. The school is most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. Faculty and staff are committed to engaging in personal and professional growth.
