About The Position

Sinai Akiba Academy is searching for a Floating Substitute Teacher to help cover Lower School (Kindergarten-5th grade) classes when a Lead Teacher or Teaching Assistant is absent from their class. This is an exempt, full-time position reporting to the Assistant Director of the Lower School and requires a multiple subject teaching credential, substitute teaching license, or master’s degree. Sinai Akiba Academy is a preeminent private Jewish day school in Los Angeles, serving students in Early Childhood through Grade 8. Requirements

  • Multiple subject teaching credential, substitute teaching license, or master’s degree

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the lesson plans and directions from the Lead Teacher
  • Practice supportive classroom teaching, effective lesson implementation, and assessment of student progress in line with the lead teacher’s sub plans and Sinai Akiba’s educational philosophy and Core Values, enriched by differences and informed through inquiry, critical thinking and active student engagement
  • Motivate and nurture the academic, personal, emotional, and social progress of students
  • Engage students in RULER and social-emotional learning including, but not limited to, SEL check-ins, reflections, and conflict resolution practices
  • Set-up and maintain a safe, stimulating, and nurturing classroom environment that is conducive to learning
  • Engage in active supervision strategies including but not limited to interacting with students, scanning, consistently observing student behaviors during educational, lunch and recess times
  • Attend and actively engage in various activities including, but not limited to, workshops, open houses, back-to-school nights, cultural projects, community gatherings, holiday celebrations
