About The Position

The IDEAL School seeks a high-energy, mission-driven educator who holds a current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential to work as an Associate Teacher with a Lower School student in need of direct behavioral support to access the curriculum and the community in an inclusion school. This person must have a strong ability to collaborate and follow the design of the established class routines, as well as the ability to create individual goals for his or her assigned student. Experience with behavior management and implementing modified behavior plans are required, along with experience working with a BCBA. The ability to differentiate and modify the curriculum and implement creative support strategies is required. IDEAL’s Associate Teacher program provides a unique opportunity for emerging special and general educators to gain experience as educators through collaboration with established classroom teachers, therapists, and administrators. IDEAL’s Associate Teacher Program is designed to be a three-year program in which emerging educators will develop the skills and experience necessary to grow in the field of education and ultimately to take on a lead role in a classroom or in another aspect of school life. Over the course of their three years in the program, Associate Teachers will be asked to work with a range of students and will, in general, be assigned a new student annually. Associate Teachers at IDEAL are required to develop the skills necessary to work with any student at IDEAL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • RBT certification
  • At least one year of experience in a school or similar setting
  • Willingness and learn in an educational environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Partnering with teachers, therapists, and additional professionals on the implementation of support strategies for assigned student across settings
  • Implementing modified behavior plans and behavior management as needed for assigned student
  • Utilizing specific instructional and behavioral techniques to meet individual student needs
  • Working as a member of the Lower School classroom teaching team in an inclusive setting to plan and differentiate curriculum and support the classroom and other students as needed
  • Collaborating and following the design of the established classroom curriculum, as well as creating and implementing individual goals for assigned student
  • Creating differentiated lessons and materials to support assigned student’s access to the curriculum
  • Communicating proactively on a daily basis with the family of the assigned student
  • Attending CSE meetings and yearly goal reviews, as needed
  • Providing support for Activities of Daily Living, as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
