About The Position

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations. There are three, seasonal, full-time positions located in Gold Beach, Oregon. Housing is not provided for these positions. Anticipated Duration: July 20, 2026 – October 31, 2026 (These are estimated dates. Length of season(s) may be shortened or extended depending on project needs, funding, or factors beyond the project’s control).

Requirements

  • Must possess or obtain a Boater Education Card through the Oregon State Marine Board (exceptions include Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license).
  • If the selected applicant does not possess a card, they must obtain it before completion of the trial service period as a condition of continued employment.
  • Finalists are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check.
  • Driving is required for this position.
  • Applicants will be required to complete the U.S. Department Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.
  • ODFW participates in E-Verify.
  • ODFW is not able to support VISA sponsorships.

  • Possess or be in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of a 4-person crew for the lower Rogue River/Huntley Park Seining Project.
  • Drive and trailer a large seining boat.
  • Set and pull in a 300 foot beach seine.
  • Wear waders and walk over gravel bars.
  • Handle fish that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Collect and record the species, sex, fish length, and scale samples from captured fish.
  • Operate rotary smolt trap and perform data analysis.
  • Conduct juvenile salmonid snorkel surveys.
  • Perform angler creel surveys.
  • Work with local ODFW STEP and state hatchery.
  • Conduct estuary seining.
  • Perform fish presence/absence surveys.
