About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Transport Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient transportation of construction equipment between job sites, yards, and vendors using lowboy and Landoll trailers. This role plays a critical part in supporting field operations by ensuring timely mobilization and demobilization of equipment while maintaining strict safety, compliance, and communication standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience transporting heavy construction equipment
  • Experience operating lowboy and/or Landoll trailers required
  • Valid CDL Class A license (required)
  • Clean driving record
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and oversized load requirements
  • Strong understanding of equipment loading, weight distribution, and securement
  • Ability to navigate tight job sites and urban environments (South Florida conditions)
  • High attention to safety and detail
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, or weekends as needed
  • Ability to climb on/off trailers and equipment repeatedly
  • Ability to lift and handle chains, binders, and securement devices
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in site development or heavy civil construction strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport heavy construction equipment (excavators, loaders, dozers, rollers, etc.) between job sites and facilities
  • Load, secure, and unload equipment using proper tie-down procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Plan routes to accommodate oversized loads, traffic conditions, and job site constraints throughout South Florida
  • Coordinate closely with dispatch, superintendents, and project teams to meet schedule demands
  • Adhere to all DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards
  • Conduct pre-trip, in-route, and post-trip inspections of truck, trailer, and load
  • Ensure all permits for oversized loads are followed
  • Maintain proper load securement and verify compliance with weight restrictions and clearances
  • Operate heavy equipment as needed for loading/unloading
  • Inspect transported equipment for visible damage before and after hauling
  • Report any mechanical issues, damages, or safety concerns immediately
  • Maintain consistent communication with dispatch regarding schedule, delays, and job site conditions
  • Work closely with field crews to ensure proper placement and timely delivery of equipment
  • Provide updates on delivery status and any operational challenges
  • Maintain assigned truck and trailer in clean, safe, and working condition
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and report service needs
  • Assist with yard organization and equipment staging when not actively hauling
