About The Position

JPI has an exciting opportunity for a Community Technology Specialist to join our Community Technology team located in our Dallas office. This entry-level, career-track position supports the production and coordination of low-voltage construction drawings for the multifamily communities JPI develops nationally, working alongside experienced low-voltage designers, architects, engineers, interior designers, and outside consultants. The Community Technology Specialist will learn the intricacies of access control and electrified door hardware, video surveillance, managed Wi-Fi, data and telecommunications, MDF/IDF infrastructure, audio/video, vehicle and pedestrian access gates, intercom and visitor entry, electronic unit entry locks, ERRCS, EV charging infrastructure, and ISP pathways. Prior experience in these systems is not required as training and mentorship are provided. This is a design and documentation role that works from the Schematic Design (SD) phase through the Issued for Construction (IFC) set. There will be a construction administration support role as well but this is not a sub-contractor role. Occasional site visits are expected but there will be no installation or field work expected. The position is the entry point to a defined career track progressing toward being a Community Technology Project Coordinator, then a CT Manager and eventually a Senior CT Manager.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Zero to three years of experience; recent graduates and candidates moving from installation, service, estimating, or design support into design work are encouraged to apply.

Nice To Haves

Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, architectural or engineering technology, electrical technology, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Learn the basic scopes of the CT scope
Take drawing and update direction from the CT Project Coordinator to update low-voltage drawings in Autodesk Revit and/or Bluebeam Revu as skills develop.
Communicate with and work alongside outsourced design teams to place and verify low-voltage devices, equipment, pathways, and associated model elements on project drawings.
Drawing sheets will require attention to annotations, keynotes, legends, schedules, and detail sheets.
Assist with riser diagrams and wiring diagrams as skills develop.
Supports drawing review and coordinate with external consultant drawings as required when skills and knowledge develop.
Learns to check device locations against architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, and life-safety drawings.
Cross-references access-controlled openings with architectural door numbers and door hardware schedules.
Supports MDF/IDF room layouts, rack elevations, and cable pathway coordination.
Attends internal coordination meetings and consultant design reviews as needed.
Communicates open questions and coordination items in writing so that others can act on them.
Assists with JPI design audits, comparing consultant drawings against JPI design standards to know reasoning behind standards.
Identifies and documents missing devices, incorrect quantities, and drawing discrepancies.
Helps the CT Project Coordinator confirm that corrections were made and comments fully responded to in Procore and ACC.
Takes on projects as directed but makes sure that standards are fully understood before taking on multiple projects.
Learns to maintain project Bills of Material (BOMs), equipment schedules, and device counts.
Supports equipment selection research under the direction of the studio lead.
Helps maintain standard details, design templates, SOPs, and technical documentation.
Applies JPI national Community Technology design standards to assigned project work.
Contributes to the ongoing development of JPI national design standards as experience grows.
Assists the Community Technology Project Coordinator as needed during construction administration.
Attends periodic OAC meetings and site visits at different stages of construction to learn about the products they are designing.
Assist in answering RFIs pertaining to low-voltage items and review consultants' responses for completeness; the internal goal is to respond to RFIs within two working days.
Learn to review and understand shop drawings and submittals pertaining to low-voltage items and review consultants' responses for completeness; the internal goal is to respond within five working days.
Learns how internet service providers' design gets coordinated and contracted.
Understands and learns how to implement smart building technology, ERRC, and EV infrastructure across assigned projects.
Travels occasionally to project sites for training, observation, and field verification.
Participates in vendor and manufacturer product demonstrations and training sessions.
Assists with special projects and department initiatives as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr. Community Technology Manager.
