As a Lottery Compliance Auditor, you will serve as liaison between the Department of Revenue and the South Carolina Education Lottery, ensuring South Carolina retailers have met all tax obligations through regular examination and audit of tax filings as it relates to lottery.

Requirements

An associate's degree and experience in accounting, auditing, finance, or tax preparation/analysis OR A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses may be substituted for the work experience OR Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR).
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.

Responsibilities

Reviewing all South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) applications to verify accuracy and completeness, ensuring consistency with the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) system information
Conducting complex audits focused on tax reporting and filing accuracy
Analyzing and interpreting data on the tax return to determine compliance, correcting errors, making system adjustments, and generating assessments as needed to determine any appropriate actions
Conducting telephone and in-person conferences with taxpayers and/or their representatives
Acting as liaison between the SCDOR and the SCEL and serving as the primary contact to resolve system issues
Collaborating with state and federal agencies as needed
Maintaining the SCDOR database, regularly monitoring the flow of information between SCDOR and SCEL, and making recommendations to improve efficiency
Preparing monthly statistical reports relating to work function
Preparing monthly retailer invoices and submitting to SCEL for compliance fees
Serving as backup to the position of innocent spouse and assisting with innocent spouse applications as needed
Creating, facilitating, and determining training for SCEL auditors based off outlined needs from the monthly review of files
