About The Position

A Loss Prevention Officer's primary responsibility is to safeguard the company's assets and minimize losses due to theft, fraud, and other criminal activities by implementing security measures and conducting investigations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in retail loss prevention, security, or law enforcement required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Must be able to operate cameras and other surveillance equipment.
  • Ability to think and act clearly in possible stressful and hostile situations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare reports and documentation.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, reports and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate with peers, store staff, police, and customers.
  • Must be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
  • Must be able to use judgment and apply common sense when carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Adhere to all local and federal safety and environmental codes, ordinances, standards and laws; adhere to all Pay-Less Markets and local safety plans, policies, practices and standards; be aware of and follow all safety rules of your work site; report any unsafe conditions or accidents to your supervisor and participate in mandatory or available safety training.
  • Regularly required to talk, hear, and respond to customers and employees.
  • Frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to walk and sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly exposed to potentially hazardous, stressful, and hostile situations.
  • Work generally occurs in a retail store environment with moderate temperature and noise level.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer and associate incidents to facilitate first aid and minimize company liability.
  • Recover stolen merchandise and apprehend shoplifters and other people who commit fraud or other criminal acts against the company.
  • Investigate criminal violations against the person or property of any customer or associate that has committed on company premises.
  • Prepare prompt and complete reports relative to all theft incidents, merchandise recoveries, accident investigations, audits, and other activities as assigned by the Loss Prevention Manager.
  • Have knowledge of and maintain strict compliance with the law and company policies concerning apprehensions, searches and seizures, and the preservation of evidence.
  • Promote shortage awareness and theft deterrence among associates by conducting meetings and participating in training events.
  • Successfully complete all security training requirements.
  • Testify in court concerning any case, criminal or civil, wherein the company is a party of interest to which the Loss Prevention Officer is summoned to.
  • Works on special assignments, investigations, and surveillance as directed by Store Loss Prevention Manager.
  • Responds to alarm conditions at assigned store.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
