Elementary-level long term substitute teachers at the Arlington Educational Complex are expected to meet the needs of all students through relationship building, inclusive practices, strategic use of assessment data, and team collaboration. Elementary-level classrooms use a co-teaching model, where two general education teachers share the work of creating classroom culture, and planning for and teaching all students and subjects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required

Responsibilities

  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which they are assigned.
  • Create and teach lesson plans (or as outlined by the absent teacher).
  • Implements strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on student's prior knowledge and experience.
  • Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and district policies.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Demonstrates professional practices in teaching.
  • Models correct use of oral and written language.
  • Take precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  • Remains at school during the entire school day unless excused by the Principal or the designated representative.
  • Maintains punctuality and reliability.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position as may be requested by the Principal or the designated representative.
