About The Position

This is a long-term substitute teaching position for Special Education (Intensive) at Pell Elementary, covering the period from September 2026 to December 2026. The role involves meeting the specific learning, social, and emotional needs of identified students with special needs, developing individualized goals, and progress monitoring academic and social learning. The teacher will utilize a variety of teaching materials, technology, and approaches, including Core instruction, Interventions, or specially designed instruction. Collaboration with parents, paraeducators, other educators, and therapists is essential. The position also includes case management, coordination of services, and ensuring compliance with IDEA and other regulations. The teacher is expected to stay current with developments in education and participate in ongoing professional development.

Requirements

Must hold a valid RI Certificate in Elementary Special Education, grades 1-6
Demonstrate knowledge of teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of identified students with special needs
Ability to know and utilize technology and communication devices in the teaching and learning process
Demonstrate ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, teaching experience, and the interview process
Demonstrate knowledge and experience in implementing Early Childhood Standards
Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training

Responsibilities

Meet children’s specific learning profiles, and social needs of students
Develop specific individualized goals and objectives to address students at their emotional level
Progress monitor each child in order to differentiate and support academic and social learning
Progress monitor each child at their level to develop standards-based goals and objectives which address the academic and social needs of the student
Develop standards-based Individual Education Programs, progress reports, pre-tests and post-tests of student’s academic, social and communication skills
Use a wide range of teaching materials, technology and various approaches to learning; which may include Core instruction, Interventions, or specially designed instruction
Engage parents and students in developing all domains of the Rhode Island Early Learning & Development standards
Establish, support, and teach positive school behavior
Work as a team member to help students progress
Provide training, guidance, and supervision to paraeducators
Collaborate with other educators and therapists to provide a continuum of service options
Use data collection and assessment to track and document students growth
Provide case management and coordination of services
Help parents to understand the specific needs of their children
Honor I.D.E.A. and all other applicable regulations
Keep abreast of new developments in the field of education by reading journals and publications, and attending professional meetings, seminars, and workshops
Participate in ongoing professional development
Perform such other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Student Services
