About The Position

Bishop Hartley High School is seeking a Long Term Substitute Teacher for Spanish. This position is for the period of February 25, 2027, to June 1, 2027. The primary responsibility is to plan and teach Spanish language courses, aligning with the high school curricular objectives set forth in the Diocesan Course of Study, with an emphasis on language proficiency as defined by the State of Ohio. The teacher will also be responsible for evaluating and reporting student progress, establishing positive and encouraging relationships with students, and maintaining high standards. A passion for the Spanish language and culture, effective professional skills, a positive, team-centered personality, and a dedication to life-long learning are essential. The role involves collaborating with other teachers and staff to create and maintain a cooperative and positive school environment, meeting the diverse needs of all students, and constructively overcoming instructional challenges.

Requirements

  • At minimum, a valid Ohio teaching license (such as long-term substitute, resident educator, 5-year professional, or non-tax) or the ability to obtain one prior to the start date
  • Effective and efficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration
  • Completion or verification of safe environment training and requirements necessary for employment in all Diocesan schools: VIRTUS training and a current FBI/BCI background check if not already completed for state licensure

Responsibilities

  • Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing curriculum designated by the Office of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Columbus.
  • Develops and implements lesson plans and supplementary materials and delivers classroom instruction in a manner compatible with Bishop Hartley’s educational mission, Diocesan standards, and the Diocesan Course of Study.
  • Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records including student attendance.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive, and positive classroom environment.
  • Enforces school policies and maintains the positive culture of the school.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other faculty and staff to support, and when necessary, refer students in need of learning, health and wellness, social, and/or emotional support to qualified professionals in the building.
  • Communicates with students, parents, and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in class and during assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
  • Collaborates with the World Languages Team Leader and other team members to ensure curricular alignment across levels.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the administrative team, when necessary.
