About The Position

This is a long-term substitute teacher position for Grade 4 within Haverhill Public Schools for the 2025-2026 school year. The role involves providing instruction and maintaining a positive learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher. The position is directly responsible to the Principal for building matters and jointly responsible to the Principal, Supervisor, and Superintendent for instructional and curriculum areas. The substitute teacher will work cooperatively with colleagues, administrators, and parents/guardians, and must be able to adapt to various lesson plans across different subjects and grades. A summary of activities and completed/uncompleted lesson plans must be provided to the regular teacher. The role also includes adhering to district policies, completing staff training, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – preferred
  • Non-Certified Teachers, include individuals with a minimum of an Associate Degree or who have completed two years of college (60 credits).
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for instructional, curriculum and general duties as indicated by the Principal, Supervisor, and directives of the Superintendent.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues, administrators and parents/guardians.
  • Substitute daily for absent professional staff as determined by the Principal/designee.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Must possess the ability to adapt to a variety of lesson plans when covering various subjects or grades.
  • Provides summary of activities accomplished, lesson plans completed and not completed and any other additional information that the classroom teacher should be aware of.
  • Maintains a safe and positive learning environment for all students and reports all student discipline issues to the appropriate authority.
  • Adheres to district policies for staff.
  • Annually completes the appropriate staff training and Substitute Handbook.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Principal or directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
