About The Position

This position is for a Long Term Substitute Teacher for General Music and Band, serving students in grades 1-8. The role involves teaching elementary general music and middle school band electives, collaborating with the drama department for student performances, managing sound systems for shows, and maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment. The teacher will also foster leadership opportunities, promote a welcoming and creative classroom, attend team meetings, and maintain accurate student records and communication with the Director of Fine Arts.

Responsibilities

• Teach elementary general music (grades 1–5) and middle school (grades 6-8) band electives using school-provided curricula and lesson plans.
• Collaborate with the drama department to help prepare 3rd-5th grade students for their performances using pre-recorded music and choreography videos.
• Control the sound system and music for grade level shows.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and productive classroom environment through effective classroom management and consistent enforcement of classroom expectations.
• Cultivate leadership opportunities for pathway scholars within the Beginning Band program.
• Foster a welcoming and accepting classroom that prioritizes kindness and creativity while also maintaining high standards and musicianship.
• Attend Elective/Enrichment team meetings to maintain continuity with the instructional team.
• Keep accurate records of student work, academic progress, participation and preparedness and communicate student grades to the Director of Fine Arts weekly.
