About The Position

Bath Community Schools is seeking a long-term substitute teacher for a fifth grade classroom at Bath Elementary School. The long-term substitute assumes full instructional and classroom responsibility for the assignment, delivering the district's fifth grade curriculum in English language arts, science, and social studies, and maintaining the classroom routines, records, and family communication of the regular teaching assignment. The long-term substitute works with the fifth grade team, as well as the school’s intervention team to ensure effective instruction. Initial lesson plans and pacing will be provided; the substitute assumes planning responsibility as the assignment progresses. The long-term substitute is supervised by the building principal.

Requirements

Valid Michigan teaching certificate with elementary (K-5) validity, or eligibility for the appropriate Michigan substitute permit, which requires at least 60 semester hours of satisfactory credit (grade C or better) from one or more recognized two- or four-year colleges or universities, or an associate degree.
Successful criminal history check, unprofessional conduct check, and fingerprinting as required by MCL 380.1230, 380.1230a, and 380.1230g.
Ability to be present and available for the full duration of the assignment.
Ability to manage an elementary classroom independently for an extended period.
Ability to deliver instruction across multiple content areas within a single day.
Ability to build rapport quickly with students entering an unplanned transition mid-year.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
Ability to accept and apply coaching and feedback from a mentor teacher and building administration.
Consistent and punctual attendance for the duration of the assignment.
Ability to perform duties consistent with district requirements and Board of Education policy.

Nice To Haves

Valid Michigan teaching certificate with elementary (K-5) or K-8 all-subject validity.
Prior experience teaching or substituting in an upper elementary classroom.
Experience with CKLA literacy curriculum.
Experience with multi-tiered systems of support and small-group intervention.

Responsibilities

Plans and delivers daily instruction aligned to Bath Community Schools' curriculum, pacing guides, and Michigan academic standards.
Establishes and maintains a safe, orderly, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
Implements classroom management practices consistent with building expectations and district policy.
Monitors student progress through formative and summative assessment, provides timely feedback, and adjusts instruction accordingly.
Maintains accurate attendance, grades, and student records in district systems.
Implements accommodations and modifications specified in student IEPs, 504 plans, and intervention plans, in coordination with special education and support staff.
Communicates with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and concerns, and participates in conferences as scheduled.
Participates in grade-level team meetings, building meetings, and professional learning as scheduled.
Works with the assigned mentor teacher and participates in observation and feedback as required by the applicable substitute permit.
Fulfills mandated reporter obligations under the Child Protection Law, 1975 PA 238.
Maintains strict confidentiality of student and family information consistent with FERPA and district policy.
Performs supervisory duties as assigned, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess.
Performs other duties related to the position as assigned by the building principal.
Provides day-to-day direction to any paraprofessional assigned to the classroom.
