About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic educator to join our team as a long-term substitute teacher. We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting student learning and maintaining a positive, engaging classroom environment. The assignment is expected to begin around mid-December or January 4 and continue for approximately 6-12 weeks (TBD). INDIANOLA COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Position Description Position Title: Teacher, Department: Teaching and Learning Reports To: Principal SUMMARY: Temporarily assumes full classroom responsibilities for an extended period to instruct students and facilitate learning activities aimed at promoting intellectual, social, and physical growth in the prescribed content area.

Requirements

  • Valid Iowa teaching license (Standard, Initial, Master or Substitute License) issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE).
  • Candidates holding a BOEE Substitute Authorization may only serve up to 10 consecutive days in a 30-day period in the same assignment, so would not be eligible for a long-term substitute teaching position.
  • Mandatory Criminal Fingerprint and Background Check; Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training.
  • Sound understanding of adolescent development, subject matter concepts, and effective pedagogy.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching, student teaching, or substitute experience preferred.
  • Strong classroom management, clear verbal/written communication, adaptability, and proficient use of instructional technology and record-keeping software.
  • Ability to step seamlessly into an established classroom, build positive working relationships, differentiate instruction, and exercise tact, patience, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular, reliable basis for the duration of the long-term assignment.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Implements existing unit/lesson plans or develops rigorous new plans aligned with Board-adopted curriculum.
  • Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student needs and maturity.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Establishes and maintains standard classroom management and behavioral expectations.
  • Evaluates, records, and reports student academic progress and maintains accurate confidential records.
  • Communicates effectively with parents, guardians, and administration regarding student progress.
  • Assists administration in enforcing school rules, safety protocols, and district policies.
  • Supervises students during school-related activities; oversees teacher associates or volunteers as assigned.
