About The Position

This is a long-term substitute position for a Program Assistant in the emotional disabilities room at Yankeetown Elementary. The estimated duration is from August 17 to August 28, and then again from September through December. The role involves working with students under the supervision of a teacher to assist with learning tasks, supervise students in small groups and during seat work, and support instruction-related tasks. The assistant will also help students with make-up work, provide information to substitute teachers, supervise students outside the classroom, and perform other duties as directed by school administrators related to student instruction.

Requirements

  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).

Responsibilities

  • Assist individual students with learning tasks assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist students in small group learning situations as assigned by the classroom teacher.
  • Supervise seat work while teacher is working with small groups.
  • Assist the teacher with other instruction-related tasks.
  • Assist students with make-up work.
  • Assist substitute teachers by providing necessary information on classroom routine during the regular teacher’s absence.
  • Assist with student supervision outside the classroom in activities such as emergency drills and assemblies.
  • Assist with any other duties directed by the school administrators as they would relate to instruction of students.
