About The Position

Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) is seeking a Full-Time Long Term Occasional Teaching Position - Engagement Lead. This role will provide system direction for best practices at tiers 1, 2, and 3 in supporting student engagement and attendance. The position involves providing professional development to the system, working with families and community members on attendance and engagement, and developing and implementing attendance protocols for the board. The position is effective August 31, 2026, until the return of the incumbent, but not beyond June 25, 2027. KPDSB serves approximately 5,000 students within 17 elementary and 6 secondary schools in Northwestern Ontario.

Requirements

  • Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, or Intermediate Senior qualifications required.
  • Extensive experience working with First Nations, Metis and Inuit students, their families and communities within Northwestern Ontario is required.
  • Understanding of the barriers students may face to attend school.
  • Strong organizational skills, willingness to be flexible and work cooperatively with others.
  • Skills to support and advocate for students and their families in complex social, emotional, behavioral situations.
  • Skills to motivate students, mediate, and resolve conflicts/problems.
  • A copy of the Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of qualification.
  • Three (3) professional references, one of whom must be a recent supervisor and permission to contact.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) or a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) at the employee’s expense.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional development and consultative support to administrators, student success teams, and classroom teachers on engagement strategies and tiered support for attendance.
  • Provide learning opportunities for families and community members on attendance and engagement.
  • Work to promote and support system-wide work in Inclusive Engagement.
  • Training of staff for enrolment register and support understanding of 15 consecutive day attendance referral process.
  • Finalize and support implementation of Elementary and Secondary Attendance Protocols.
  • Lead Student Aware intervention response, monitor the flags and intervention Protocol on Attendance supports.
  • Help attendance teams at schools implement the tiers (Tier 1, 2, 3) and share evidence-based practices.
  • Share best practices to support attendance and engagement in schools, identify Tier 1 strategies for schools.
  • Participate on Ontario Association for Attendance committee.
  • Complete Ministry reporting for attendance.
  • Attend the Community School Engagement Attendance meetings.
  • Travel to areas in the board is necessary.
