As a Long-Term Disability Claims Specialist, your primary responsibilities will be assessing eligibility for Long Term Disability benefits, and reviewing for ongoing medical, vocational, and financial accuracy. This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends. We offer 3-5 weeks of paid training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of reviewing and rendering initial liability determinations on Long Term Disability claims
  • 1+ years of experience issuing monthly payments on Long Term Disability claims
  • Experience with Microsoft Word (ability to create, modify and send documents)
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (ability to create, modify and send spreadsheets)
  • Ability to work full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasionally overtime or weekends
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
  • All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Providing expertise or general claims support to teams in reviewing, researching, investigating, negotiating, processing, and adjudicating Long Term Disability claims
  • Communicating ongoing status and decisions both in writing and verbally
  • Authorizes the appropriate payment or refers claims to SME or Manager for validation of adverse or over limit approvals
