About The Position

As part of the university, the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center is a federally funded center that operates exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students as well as national outreach programs which develop and disseminate innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide, and provide information, training, and technical assistance to parents and professionals serving children from birth through age 21.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Two years of post-secondary education in education, deaf education, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience working with children in K-12 educational setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of K-12 students and behaviors of students at different age groups
  • Fluency in American Sign Language

Responsibilities

  • Provide and work with teacher to ensure the safety and well-being of the students working one-on-one while helping those master skills and improve academic performance in K-12 school settings.
  • Familiarity and be able to react quickly and appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Vigilant in monitoring students and be agile.
  • Work with students with various instructional activities, classroom and student management.
