About The Position
The Logistics Yard Operations Manager (YOM) at a Regional Distribution Center plays a crucial role in influencing safety, leadership, excellence, self-motivation, problem-solving, and teamwork. This position fosters a "safety first" culture through awareness, training, execution, and accountability, making safety Target's number one priority. The YOM works diligently with Site teams and logistics leaders to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all drivers and team members in Target's yard. Responsibilities include managing all yard functions, overseeing the execution and oversight of 3PL carriers, and ensuring operational plans are executed safely and efficiently. The role involves identifying root causes of problems in an environment that supports calculated risk and testing. The YOM will oversee and support logistics yard operations at distribution centers, servicing stores by delivering loads outbound to Target’s supply chain and store network. Collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including Distribution Leadership, Carrier Partners, Assets Protection, Logistics Leaders, and HQ teams, is key to identifying process gaps and driving optimization through tools and automation. Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, organizational, and presentation skills.

- 3+ years of previous supply chain experience.
- Experience managing third-party service.
- Experience leading and influencing a team with common or shared goals, providing direction, and coaching for performance and development.
- Proven strength in problem solving and advanced data/statistical analysis.
- Strong training and mentoring skills with emphasis on team member development and engagement.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in transportation load planning, yard management or fleet management is desired.
- Experience working for a best-in-class, asset-based, transportation provider is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing the respective yard service provider, establishing good working relationships, and holding carriers accountable according to their standard operating procedures.
- Reviewing yard driver schedules to ensure they meet operational requirements.
- Reviewing invoice submissions and reports for any outliers (fuel, weekly submission).
- Conducting routine business review meetings covering safety, driver staffing/scheduling and capacity, outstanding claims, yard truck status, wins/opportunities, and ensuring completion of countermeasures.
- Working with yard and maintenance providers to review any process issues on the yard.
- Conducting routine rides around the yard with the provider, engaging in safety discussions with yard drivers, and noting any safety concerns.
- Ensuring all yard functions follow safety standards.
- Observing and reporting yard safety near misses and ensuring they are entered by Yard Coordinators (YC) and the yard provider daily.
- Conducting daily yard safety audits.
- Ensuring current and new safety standards are deployed and adhered to.
- Managing yard capacity to ensure trailers are staged appropriately.
- Ensuring the weekly route forecast is entered into the trailer availability tool and the report is sent out daily by YCs.
- Reviewing yard space and configuring the Yard Management System (YMS) to support operations.
- Touching base regularly with Yard Coordinators (YC).
- Attending contribution meetings to review YC team performance.
- Conducting monthly development status meetings with the Senior Logistics Manager (SLM).
- Participating in weekly calls with YOM peers to ensure alignment on network priorities.
- Ensuring appropriate YC staffing is in place.
- Performing Senior Logistics Manager (SLM) role & responsibilities as assigned.
- Assisting in escalations/event management as needed.
