Logistics Training Manager Location: Decatur, IL Travel: Up to 5% Relocation Assistance: Available Visa Sponsorship: Not Available Job Summary As a 2nd shift Logistics Training Manager, you will provide strategic leadership for the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of training systems that enable world‑class safety performance, operational excellence, and quality outcomes across logistics and distribution operations. You will partner closely with logistics leadership to ensure workforce capability, standard work adherence, and talent development strategies are aligned with business objectives, enterprise priorities, and Caterpillar’s safety culture. This role is suited for a results‑driven operations leader who demonstrates strong floor credibility and enterprise perspective. You will establish clear expectations and governance for both classroom‑based learning and shop‑floor execution, ensuring structured training translates into consistent, safe, and effective on‑the‑job performance. Through data‑based decision making, you will identify capability and performance gaps and convert operational requirements, risk, and change into scalable training, onboarding, and development solutions that drive accountability, support continuous improvement, and deliver measurable business results.

Requirements

  • Operational leadership & supervision: Proven ability to lead daily logistics and production activities, coordinate cross‑functional teams, and drive consistent performance through standard work, coaching, and accountability.
  • Safety & quality leadership: Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality excellence, with experience establishing expectations, enforcing standards, and embedding disciplined procedures and training to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.
  • Problem solving & analytical capability: Strong capability to define complex operational problems, apply structured root‑cause analysis, evaluate alternatives, and implement sustainable solutions that improve performance.
  • Data‑driven decision making & reporting: Ability to gather, analyze, and communicate operational data—including safety, productivity, quality, inventory, and process performance—to inform decisions and measure training effectiveness.
  • Planning, organization & communication: Skilled in planning and prioritizing work, managing competing demands, and communicating clearly and effectively across shifts, teams, and leadership levels with attention to detail and follow‑through.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in logistics, warehousing, distribution, or supply chain operations.
  • Continuous improvement experience (e.g., Lean, standard work, waste elimination, visual management).
  • Familiarity with structured problem‑solving tools (e.g., Pareto analysis, fishbone diagrams) and converting insights into sustainable training controls.
  • Experience developing trainers, team leads, or supervisors through coaching and feedback.
  • Comfort working in fast‑paced, multi‑shift logistics or manufacturing environments with changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of logistics training strategies that support safe, efficient, and high‑quality operations across shifts and sites.
  • Assess operational performance, safety incidents, quality trends, and process changes to identify training needs and capability gaps.
  • Design, maintain, and deploy standardized training programs, onboarding plans, and refresher content aligned to logistics processes, equipment, and safety standards.
  • Partner with logistics managers and supervisors to align training schedules with staffing, operational demand, and business priorities.
  • Facilitate and coach trainers, team leads, and supervisors on effective training delivery, standard work reinforcement, and on‑the‑job coaching.
  • Develop and maintain training documentation, work instructions, and learning materials tied to safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
  • Track and report training effectiveness using operational data (safety, productivity, quality, inventory accuracy) and recommend improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement by integrating lessons learned, problem‑solving outcomes, and best practices into training content and delivery methods.
  • Foster a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement across logistics and supply chain teams.
