About The Position

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is seeking a qualified candidate to become our Logistics Support Specialist. This position assists with the coordination, preparation, and delivery of emergency management training classes, workshops, and seminars. It also assists in the calibration of response equipment and supplies, and provides purchasing and logistics support for related equipment and supplies for daily operations and during disasters. All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events as directed. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official EWP.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of adult education principles, methods, and technique and of related instructional equipment, devices, and supplies.
  • Skilled in the use of a personal computer with Microsoft-based PC applications and of related instructional and office equipment.
  • The ability to assist in the preparation and use of instructional and training aids.
  • Considerable presentation skills, with the ability to present training and assist with training presentations.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and staff using proper grammar and punctuation and manage multiple sources of information efficiently.
  • Organized and able to carry out assignments independently, without close supervision.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and safely operate a vehicle to transport materials and equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and manage a Virginia Small Purchase Charge Card; completing necessary reports for auditing purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Use of or being trained in the use of logistics equipment (fork lift, pallet jack, wrap machines, generators and other logistics equipment).

Responsibilities

  • Providing assistance in the delivery of emergency response, Logistics and related emergency management training classes.
  • Developing hand-outs and a/v support for programs at direction of research personnel and design team members.
  • Managing VDEM’s received goods program for quantity and quality.
  • Assisting in developing and conducting needs assessments for emergency management and technical response training programs.
  • Serving as the Logistics Division Sourcing and Acquisition Lead.
