About The Position

Primary function of the Logistics Planner is to support Sysco Site and Inbound Supply Chain Organization objectives by coordinating activities related to moving products from supplier locations to Sysco facilities. This role is responsible for optimizing Inbound Logistics programs, resulting in the most efficient means of inbound transportation for the purpose of reducing freight expenses and maximizing freight profitability. This role utilizes all cross-functional resources, internal systems, and processes available to minimize the number of Supply Chain inefficiencies while mitigating excess cost. Identification and implementation of supply chain best practices for standardization within the USBL. Maximize logistics decisions to increase business growth while maintaining the required service levels, at optimal cost.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of logistics/ supply chain experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of US DOT Regulations, Hours of Service, Weight Limitations, US Geography.
  • Knowledge of freight claim laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrates initiative, self-starter, and a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and details with accuracy.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Transportation Management System (TMS) system to plan, optimize, and tender freight to contracted carrier partners within 24 hours of Purchase Order (PO) creation for assigned sites/ regions.
  • Regularly utilize TMS to review and ensure all loads and POs are placed with correct dates, lead times, and tendered to carriers in effort to drive LEI, service, and optimal ordering patterns.
  • Partner with Supply Chain Inventory Management, Operations, and 3rd party carriers to provide resolution on Inbound Logistics freight.
  • Resolve recalled/rejected tenders within 2 business hours from notification of recall/rejection.
  • Help identify trends to mitigate excess cost and service erosion, including detention charges, unprofitable lanes, underweight load fill, and on-going service failures.
  • Consistently review vendor delivered suppliers for possible CPU conversions to create logistics earned income and maximize supply chain efficiency.
  • Negotiate spot rates with carrier partners where necessary to cover volume over-committed capacity per department guidelines.
  • Review, approve, and resolve accessorial charges and WIP to ensure timely carrier payment.
  • Perform daily tasks for assigned sites in one of the following functions: Inbound Logistics, Claim Resolution or Inbound Command Center.
  • Inbound Logistics: Possess comprehensive knowledge of current vendors’ freight programs, product categories, supplier distribution points, and overall Inbound Logistics for assigned sites.
  • Provide back up support to team members when necessary.
  • Claim Resolution: Investigate reports of overage, shortage, and damage (OS&D) for assigned Sysco locations.
  • Determine if OS&D claim should be filed against the supplier or assigned motor carrier – completing necessary CORA tasks associated.
  • Gather necessary documents, emails, and photographs to aid in financial recovery of claim value from responsible party.
  • Provide on-going guidance and feedback to Sysco facilities on appropriate documentation and claim mitigation practices.
  • Prepare claims packet in Sysco Claims Management system for submission to motor carriers.
  • Filing, follow through, and closure of carrier claims in TMS system.
  • Maintaining & controlling system of data and record integrity.
  • Inbound Command Center: Provide guidance and / review metrics with OpSites through monthly meetings to analyze and optimize inbound capacity settings at a temp/dock level to ensure operational needs, inbound demand and service level can be met.
  • Consistently monitor inbound demand vs dock capacity settings and deploy mathematics or process changes for improvement.
  • OpSite problem solving for example, but not limited to, issues with inbound cap settings due to building space constraints.
  • Guidance on OpSite concerns and issues including analyses and driving resolution of daily, time-sensitive processes.
  • Provide back up support for team members as needed, including RDC Capacity planner.
