About The Position

The Laborer—Logistics is responsible for the proper handling, storage, and distribution of materials to Cooperative personnel and contractors, electricians, and members. This position works with the Logistics team in maintaining an accurate, organized, and well-stocked inventory. He/she is expected to acquire experience and knowledge to advance to the Apprentice Logistics Technician position. This position works closely with Accounting, Engineering, Metering, and Operations personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office applications

Responsibilities

  • Maintains familiarity with Cooperative and departmental safety related work practices, safety procedures, and other safety requirements.
  • Ensures Logistics areas, including the warehouse, transformer shop, storage areas, yard, and scrap area are kept orderly, clean, and in compliance with all applicable safety standards.
  • Removes debris and uses magnet to remove metal debris from yard and parking lots.
  • Stages materials in appropriate locations.
  • Builds standard and special meter loops.
  • Maintains adequate stock of standard meter loops.
  • Assists with receiving and unloading freight.
  • Verifies packing slips against material received through counting or weighing items, reporting and documenting discrepancies.
  • Stores materials in the proper locations.
  • Participates in preparing and taking annual inventory of all stock.
  • Verify inventory records by comparing them to physical counts of stock, reporting and investigating discrepancies as needed.
  • Assists with supplying crews and Cooperative contractors with materials and supplies for work orders and service orders.
  • Creates material acquisition forms and pick lists as needed.
  • Gathers materials from warehouse shelves, pole yard, and transformer shop according to the material acquisition form, staking sheet, and/or pick list, verifying correct items and amounts are issued.
  • Updates inventory and charges materials to the corresponding work order or miscellaneous account.
  • Prepares and organizes materials in advance when possible.
  • May operate forklift to load/unload materials.
  • Assists with processing materials returned by crews and contractors.
  • Evaluates materials returned on retirement, making acceptable minor repairs as needed to return item to stock.
  • Restocks new/unused items.
  • Operates and maintains working conditions of all vehicles, tools, and equipment used in the performance of tasks.
  • Cleans vehicles as needed.
  • Reports any damaged and/or faulty vehicles, tools, and equipment to appropriate personnel as soon as possible.
  • Reports vehicle mileage as requested.
  • Operates equipment and machinery following Cooperative and department safety practices.
  • Organizes digital documents in document management program.
  • Collects, prepares, and scans paper documents into program.
  • Inputs metadata and indexes documents.
  • Converses with members, builders, electricians, and the public to address questions and requests for meter bases and poles.
  • Practices and promotes respect in all interactions.
  • Checks out meter bases to members, builders, and electricians as requested.
  • Documents disbursements and notifies appropriate Cooperative personnel.
  • Prepares and disburses used poles.
  • Assesses pole for chemical treatment history, following procedures for proper removal and disposal of affected areas.
  • Assists with forecasting inventory needs.
  • Compares actual item inventory to the established preferred minimums and maximums of each item, notifying appropriate personnel for reorder as needed.
  • Monitors scheduling of large jobs to ensure adequate stock.
  • Takes initiative to gain knowledge of Cooperative and department procedures, policies, and specifications to perform the job more efficiently and to qualify for advancement.
  • Continues to become familiar with assembly units, materials, and the proper use of devices, tools, and equipment in the department.
  • Demonstrates continued learning and progression of responsibilities, skills, and abilities.
  • May perform work of Apprentice Logistics Technician under supervision.
  • Assists others in the department as needed.
  • Attends training and conferences to obtain industry knowledge in areas related to job functions.
  • Researches and recommends updates and/or changes in operational procedures, tools, and equipment.
  • Assists with on-call/stand-by duties as scheduled and as requested during emergency situations.
  • Answers and responds to requests in a timely manner.
  • Prepares various reports as requested.
  • Delivers material to crews in the field when necessary.
  • Assists with District and Annual Meetings as required.
