About The Position

The Logistics Broker Accounting Specialist manages day-to-day transactional financial operations for a non-asset freight brokerage. The role focuses on accurate invoicing, timely carrier settlements, and resolving billing disputes. It is strictly on-site at the company’s Schoolcraft, Michigan office, with no remote work available. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Two positions are available, and the role is classified as exempt.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent practical freight-bookkeeping experience.
Hands-on experience with general ledger software such as QuickBooks.
Proficiency with standard office productivity suites, including Microsoft Excel.
Deep understanding of freight billing documents, including PODs and BOLs, and standard non-asset freight brokerage operations.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to communicate professionally with carriers and customers to resolve payment discrepancies.

Nice To Haves

Experience with specialized Transportation Management Systems (TMS).

Responsibilities

Bill customers accurately for freight movements, attach required shipping documents such as Bills of Lading and Proof of Delivery, and track incoming customer payments.
Process carrier payments and verify rate confirmations against bills from third-party motor carriers or owner-operators.
Manage carrier factoring or quick-pay programs.
Identify and resolve carrier or customer billing differences.
Manage cargo claims documentation.
Audit accessorial charges such as detention, layover, and lumper fees.
