About The Position

The Logistics and Hazmat Compliance Supervisor oversees shipping, transportation operations, and hazardous materials compliance across all AMS locations. Serving as a primary internal resource, this role supervises daily logistics activities, audits client processes, resolves operational issues, provides training, and ensure adherence to shipping rules, rates, service standards, and applicable regulations. The supervisor also ensures that hazardous materials are properly identified, packaged, labeled, documented, and shipped in compliance with DOT, IATA, IMDG, and other regulatory requirements. This position is designated as in-person; any change to work status, including remote, hybrid, or part-time arrangements, must be reviewed and approved by Human Resources prior to implementation.

Requirements

  • Hazmat regulatory knowledge (IATA, 49 CFR, IMDG certifications required)
  • Continuous improvement experience (SixSigma, Lean, Kaizen preferred)
  • Working knowledge of AES data portal, UPS CampusShip, and UPS TRS System
  • Proven experience with ProShip TMS and WMS systems

Responsibilities

  • Supervise transportation operations, building auditors, and daily reporting activities.
  • Monitor transportation costs, carrier performance, delivery service levels, and client-specific package expenses.
  • Analyze network and shipping data to identify cost savings, service improvements, and operational risks.
  • Prepare client and carrier reporting and lead business reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support transportation analysis, rate card development, annual GRI planning, and cross-functional data requests.
  • Oversee new client setup in ProShip, rate-shopping group implementation, invoicing audits, HTS data accuracy, and AES filings.
  • Ensure shipments comply with DOT, IATA, IMDG, and other applicable hazardous materials regulations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and develop, implement, and enforce hazmat SOP’s across AMS locations.
  • Maintain compliance records, certifications, incident reports, SDS data, and CHEMTREC documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to resolve hazmat compliance issues.
  • Conduct compliance audits, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain required hazmat certifications and ensure employee certifications remain current.
  • Train warehouse, packing, and shipping personnel on hazmat handling, packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements.
  • Verify the use of approved packaging, material compatibility, labels, forms, shipping papers, declarations, and manifests.
  • Ensure required hazmat supplies and documentation are available at applicable facilities.
  • Partner with development teams to ensure ProShip and WAMS properly identify hazmat SKUs and prevent noncompliant shipments.
  • Serve as the primary contact for DOT and FAA inspections, violations, and hazardous materials incidents.
  • Support emergency response activities and regulatory reporting as required.
  • Supervise transportation and service-related floor processes.
  • Manage building auditors and daily reporting activities.
  • Monitor transportation cost performance by client; ensure package costs align with estimates and minimize risk exposure.
  • Lead business review meetings with external partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare client reporting for assigned networks and carrier groups.
  • Support cross-functional teams with transportation analysis and data requests.
  • Analyze network performance data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with carrier partners to ensure on-time delivery and cost control.
  • Oversee setup and launch of new clients in ProShip and rollout of rate shopping groups.
  • Audit invoicing and shipping data using audit software.
  • Supervise HTS system data accuracy and AES filings.
  • Contribute to rate card builds and analytics for annual GRI.
  • Stay current with hazmat shipping laws and industry updates.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce SOPs for hazmat handling and shipping across AMS locations.
  • Maintain records of certifications, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate discussions with external partners and internal teams on hazmat issues and solutions.
  • Monitor and maintain MSDS data and CHEMTREC records.
  • Maintain personal hazmat certification and ensure team certifications are current.
  • Train warehouse, packing, and shipping staff on hazmat handling, packaging, and labeling requirements.
  • Oversee proper use of UN-approved packaging and verify material compatibility.
  • Ensure availability of hazmat labels, forms, and materials for compliance.
  • Review SDS, shipping papers, declarations, and manifests for accuracy.
  • Work with development teams to ensure systems (ProShip, WAMS) correctly identify hazmat SKUs and block non-compliant shipments.
  • Conduct periodic audits of shipping operations for compliance gaps.
  • Implement corrective actions and report findings.
  • Act as primary contact for DOT/FAA inspections, violations, and emergency incident response.
  • Travel to AMS facilities as needed.
