About The Position

The Logistics Analyst serves as the central coordinator for fuel and limestone supply between Southern Company Coal Procurement, coal and limestone suppliers, Class I railroads, Southern Company Fleet Operations and generating plants. This role plans, monitors, and analyzes fuel and limestone supply logistics for Georgia Power’s Plants Bowen and Scherer, with a focus on reliable and cost-effective deliveries and maintaining onsite inventories within established limits.
The Logistics Analyst combines daily shipment execution with inventory forecasting, data integrity, reporting, and cross-functional coordination. The successful candidate will monitor coal and limestone movements from loading through unloading, identify emerging inventory or delivery risks, reconcile actual performance to forecasts, and communicate clear, timely information to internal and external stakeholders. The position also supports budgeting, audit and regulatory requests, long-range planning, system enhancements, and continuous improvement of logistics processes and tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain/Logistics, Business, Engineering, Accounting, or a related field is required.
• Comfort performing detailed work in an operations environment
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Ability to think critically, strategically, and analytically
• Adept at identifying challenges, developing solutions, and implementing strategies to address operational issues or emergencies
• Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships
• Able to adjust to dynamic situations and make prompt, decisive choices
• Supply chain or logistics industry experience is required
• Proficiency with standard analytical and business software such as Microsoft Office is required

Responsibilities

• Manage coal and limestone fuel logistics, inventory planning, and transportation coordination for GPC Plants Bowen and Scherer.
• Serve as the primary logistics liaison with suppliers, railroads, plants, and internal stakeholders to resolve transportation, production, and supply issues.
• Monitor daily coal and limestone supply chains, train loadings, empty railcar movements, plant inventories, and unit operating status to ensure fuel reliability.
• Maintain and update inventory forecasting tools, incorporating loadings, consumption, missed shipments, and projected inventory positions.
• Coordinate monthly fuel and limestone nominations with suppliers, railroads, and internal stakeholders to support operational requirements.
• Manage rail transportation permitting activities with BNSF, NS and CSX, and other carriers to support scheduled fuel deliveries.
• Develop and communicate weekly and month-end inventory projections, fuel supply risks, and operational impacts to Fleet Operations, plant personnel, and Coal Servies teams.
• Prepare, maintain, and publish coal and limestone inventory reports and dashboards through Power BI and other business reporting tools.
• Participate in recurring operational, railroad, supplier, inventory, and fuel planning meetings to support daily and long-term fuel supply strategies.
• Support fuel settlement and accounting processes by researching, correcting, and resolving transportation and manifest data discrepancies.
