About The Position

This position involves 24-hour solo coverage at a Critical Access Hospital, typically entailing 12-15 hours of on-site work with the remainder on call. The physician is provided with nearby or on-site sleeping arrangements. The hospital has 25 beds with an average daily census of 12 patients and 6 designated ICU beds. The role requires proficiency in performing emergency intubations, ventilator management, and central line placements. Specialty support is available, and the hospital utilizes the Cerner EMR system. The physician will be responsible for admissions, rounding, and managing discharges, with a focus on efficient patient care transitions and optimizing ED throughput.

Requirements

  • Board Certification: Yes
  • ACLS: Yes
  • Stroke Certification
  • Proficient in performing emergency intubations.
  • Proficient in ventilator management.
  • Proficient in central line placements.
  • Ability to manage 12 patients on average daily.
  • Ability to handle 1-2 admissions per night.
  • Familiarity with Cerner EMR system.
  • Ability to evaluate patients in the ED prior to admission.
  • Experience with transition orders.
  • Ability to conduct morning and evening rounds.
  • Awareness of patients scheduled for discharge and preparation for timely discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24-hour solo coverage for a Critical Access Hospital.
  • Perform 12-15 hours of on-site work daily, with the remainder on call.
  • Manage patients including admissions, rounding, and discharges.
  • Conduct morning rounds typically between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM.
  • Conduct informal evening rounds between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM.
  • Evaluate patients in the ED prior to admission to avoid unnecessary transfers.
  • Utilize transition orders during overnight and busy daytime hours.
  • Evaluate overnight admissions, particularly ICU patients requiring immediate bedside assessment.
  • Identify patients scheduled for discharge and ensure readiness for timely discharge.
  • Perform emergency intubations.
  • Manage ventilators.
  • Perform central line placements.
  • Collaborate with ED and nursing staff.
  • Engage with hospitalists for surgical consults as needed.
  • Provide physician-to-physician call support for Interventional Radiology.
