About The Position

This role involves performing inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on locomotives. Responsibilities include daily, periodic, and annual inspections in accordance with FRA regulations, diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, air equipment, trucks, and other components. The position requires performing emergency repairs, replacing various locomotive and diesel engine parts, and conducting daily servicing of units. Additionally, the role involves operating welding and cutting equipment, adhering to safety policies, handling environmental issues, and maintaining maintenance records. The job requires the ability to operate cutting torches and electrical welders, knowledge of safe equipment operation, and computer proficiency for tasks like parts ordering and email. The work environment can be outdoors in extreme weather conditions and indoors with poor ventilation. Physical requirements include lifting up to 100 pounds, standing for 4-8 hours daily, and climbing stairs and ladders. Candidates must also pass a background check and drug screening.

Requirements

Must be able to operate cutting torch and electrical welder.
Knowledge of the safe operation of the equipment used.
Must be able to utilize a computer for parts ordering, troubleshooting, emails, and files.
Must have valid Driver's License.
High school education or GED.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

Experience in diesel mechanics highly preferred.
Electrical background high preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform daily, periodic, and annual inspections of locomotives in accordance with FRA regulations.
Inspect equipment components for compliance with FRA.
Diagnose malfunctions in diesel engines, air equipment, trucks, or other components to determine the nature of the problem and needed repair or replacement.
Perform emergency repairs to locomotives.
Replace locomotive and diesel engine components including, but not limited to wheels or trucks, traction motors, sprints, couplers, draft gear assembly, gear cases, cylinder heads, air compressor, and turbo chargers.
Perform daily service of locomotive units: sands, waters, lubricates, and oils; wipe down and cleans unit and windows.
Operate electrical and gas welding equipment to join a variety of metals and alloys.
Operate acetylene torches for cutting and/or shaping metal parts such as aluminum, cast iron, steel.
Comply with company safety policies and procedures; must wear required personal protective equipment.
Handle environmental issues in appropriate manner (e.g. proper disposal of filter oil, diesel fuel or other materials).
Help maintain written and computer records for maintenance and repairs as required.
Operate cutting torch and electrical welder.
Maintain knowledge of the safe operation of the equipment used.
Utilize a computer for parts ordering, troubleshooting, emails, and files.
