About The Position

VIA Rail Canada Inc., a leader in passenger transportation in Canada, is currently seeking applications from qualified Locomotive Engineers for October 2026 in the Quebec region. The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of VIA Rail passengers and crew, enabling VIA to meet its scheduled operations and provide excellent customer service. This designated safety-critical position entails working varying schedules, being away from home for extended periods of time, working under pressure and dealing with stressful factors all within the guidelines of the Railway Safety Act of Canada and the Canadian Railway Operating Rules as well as VIA Rail’s special instructions. If you are a locomotive engineer (or have locomotive engineer qualifications) with experience on the Bridge, Drummondville, Montmagny, Mont-Joli, St-Hyacinthe and Montréal subdivisions and you are interested in operating passenger rail services while pursuing a career with VIA Rail, please submit your resume.

Requirements

Locomotive Engineer qualifications
Conductors with minimum 2 years experience could be considered
Very good spoken and written communication skills in French and functional English
Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualified
Operating experience will be evaluated and considered throughout the selection process
No criminal record
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
Good technical and mechanical aptitudes
