About The Position

The Maintenance Department within UCF's Facilities and Business Operations is seeking a Locksmith II to help keep one of the nation's largest university campuses safe and secure. This dynamic role will install, maintain, and repair complex lock systems; respond to emergencies and unforeseen situations; and serve as a trusted resource for students, faculty, and staff professional communication and exceptional customer service. The Locksmith II position brings expertise in fire, smoke, and handicap ingress/egress hardware, as well as electronic security systems including electronic key and card access systems, while ensuring all lock sets, closers, and exit devices conform to state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved locksmith apprenticeship program; or a high school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • Health Assessment Required: UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license.
  • The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with campus or similar door hardware and keying systems, as well as southern building and NFPA standards.
  • Knowledge of key blank identification with key cutting experience.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software applications to include Microsoft Office, work order systems (e.g., Integrated Work Management System) and telecommunication devices.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting lock system schematics and technical drawings, and proficiency in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Experience working with facilities management or physical plant operations in large complex organizations.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and Federal, State, and local safety regulations applicable to locksmithing and facilities operations.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical and/or electronic lock, access control, or door hardware issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple concurrent service requests and work orders in a fast-paced facilities environment.
  • Effective communication skills in English in order to: Work effectively with customers; Operate and demonstrate the functions of the electronic equipment; Utilize telecommunication devices.
  • Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Install, adjust, and service locksets and door closers.
  • Repair a variety of locking systems, including electronic and mechanical locks, exit devices, and doors.
  • Re-key locks and change safe combinations as needed.
  • Manage key control processes, including: verifying proper approvals for key issuance, cutting and engraving keys, processing returned keys, maintaining accurate lock shop records.
  • Maintain and update key and access control databases (e.g., dnaFusion and Persona).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve access control and entry system issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with hardware and locksmith suppliers.
  • Source materials cost-effectively while maintaining quality standards.
  • Stay updated on new locking technologies, systems, and materials through supplier communication.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
