Position Description The Local Driver is responsible for operating tractor-trailer combinations locally, to transport intermodal containers between company and customer facilities, rail yards, and/or work sites in a safe and timely manner. Driver will also be responsible for operating tractor-trailer combinations locally, to transport flatbed and end dump trailers between company and customer facilities, interfacility moves, and/or work sites in a safe and timely manner.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Class A CDL required (must have air brake endorsement and no manual transmission restrictions)
- Motor vehicle record must not have any major driving offenses within the last three (3) years
- At least 2 years of over-the-road driving experience required
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and write
- Demonstrated strong mechanical and intermediate mathematical skills
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- flatbed driving experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Operate a tractor-trailer combination safely and efficiently to transport assigned loads
- Ensure all loaded materials are safely secured prior to and throughout transport
- Inspect company vehicles/trailers and report necessary maintenance in accordance with policies and procedures
- Check-in with the Transportation department daily for assignments and updates
- Participate in all job briefings, follow railroad protection limits, and conduct proper radio communications
- Practice proper housekeeping with clean, properly maintained vehicles, tools, and equipment
- Accurately complete and maintain a drivers log in accordance with requirements
- Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, policies, and procedures
- Report all job site incidents and injuries to Transportation Manager immediately
- Complete and maintain all required safety training and certifications
