About The Position

The role of a Substitute Teacher is to ensure that students receive quality instruction in the absence of their regular teacher. Omaha Public Schools is seeking substitute teacher candidates who can fulfill the requirements for Nebraska Local Substitute permits. Experience working with children is required. College coursework in education or related experience is required. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who are currently enrolled in an accredited teacher education program. If you are a current Paraprofessional with the district, call the Sub Desk before applying. Candidates will be considered for a Local Substitute Teacher position after completing the online application and meeting the requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children is required.
  • College coursework in education or related experience is required.
  • Must have a valid Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) Local Substitute Teaching Permit.
  • Must provide email addresses for a minimum of three professional references.
  • OPS ONLY accepts valid Local Substitute Teaching Permits, not temporary permits.
  • Do not apply for this position if you hold a degree in education and have (or are in the process of getting) a Nebraska teaching certificate. Please apply using the Certified Substitute teacher application.
