About The Position

GCC is seeking a Local Ready Mix Driver to deliver concrete mix to job sites. This role involves pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the ready-mix truck, ensuring fluid levels, tire pressure, and brakes are in good condition. The driver will fill the water tank, use maps and experience to navigate to job sites for on-time delivery, and safely maneuver the truck in various ground conditions. The driver will also add necessary ingredients like fibers, admixtures, cement, or colors, and place chutes for concrete discharge. Post-discharge, chutes must be washed and returned, and the truck cleaned at the end of each shift. Communication with dispatch via two-way radio and a truck status signaling system is required. Drivers are responsible for calling out their start time each day. Performs other duties assigned by supervisor/management.

Requirements

  • Class A or B CDL Required
  • High school diploma (minimum); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to pass Federal Department of Transportation drug screen and physical.
  • Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations.
  • Ability to handle cash and make change.
  • Ability to deal with customers and other employees in a diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
  • Maintain Department of Transportation Health cond.

Responsibilities

  • Drives truck equipped with a concrete mixer to deliver concrete mix to job sites.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection of ready-mix truck pursuant to D.O.T. regulations, checking fluid levels, tire pressure, brakes, and other driver-operated controls.
  • Fills water tank before each delivery.
  • Uses map book and experience to take the most direct route to job site for on-time delivery.
  • Safely drives truck to jobsite and arrives with the desired slump within customer or job specifications.
  • Safely maneuvers truck in often very unstable ground conditions upon arriving on jobsite.
  • Makes safe observations of customers’ equipment and conditions.
  • Adds necessary ingredients such as fibers, chemical admixtures, cement, or integral colors at plant or job site, as well as other products, pursuant to customer needs.
  • Places chutes from fender or hanging rack onto the main chute at the rear of truck for discharge.
  • Washes the chutes and puts them back in the appropriate location on truck upon completion of discharge.
  • Washes truck with a hose and brush, including the use of acidic solution when necessary, upon completion of each shift.
  • Communicates with dispatch through the use of two-way radio and the use of a truck status signaling system.
  • Calls out each day for start time.
  • Performs a post-trip inspection of the truck pursuant to DOT regulations.
  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor/management.
