About The Position

This position is accountable for providing support services and expertise to local agencies in the planning and programming of federal aid and state funded transportation projects. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Local Program Technician. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Daily in-district and occasional state-wide travel with overnight stays.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of federal and state transportation funding programs and Federal-Aid project requirements.
  • Understanding of transportation project development processes (planning through construction and close-out).
  • Experience monitoring program budgets, tracking project costs, and processing agreements and invoices.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations, policies, and funding guidelines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and program revisions simultaneously.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate and up-to-date program records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate with local agencies, engineers, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, and central office staff.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and coordinates the status of the local portion of the district’s Annual and Multi-Year programs.
  • Prepares and processes program revisions.
  • Monitors the status of all local agency federal aid projects.
  • Updates Local Roads computer systems so that all information is kept current.
  • Assists in the preparation and/or review of funding agreements, engineering agreements, invoices, and payments.
  • Prepares, processes, and monitors invoices for payment and tracks final billings.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conductive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
