About The Position
Performs responsible technical work in interpreting and enforcing the City’s local codes ordinances – minimum housing, public nuisance, junked/abandoned vehicles, and zoning ordinances; does related work as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- Training and experience in code enforcement in the areas of construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical or zoning is desirable.
- Thorough understanding of local, state and federal safety regulations and OSHA
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
Nice To Haves
- Level I Certification or higher in building, plumbing, mechanical or electrical issued by NC State Code Qualifications Board; or Housing Code Certification issued by North Carolina Association of Housing Code Officials; or Certified Zoning Official Certification issued by North Carolina Association of Zoning Officials
Responsibilities
- Interprets, enforces and educates the public on the City’s Local Codes Ordinances
- Deals with the public by receiving complaints and furnishing information pertaining to local codes – minimum housing, public nuisance, junked vehicles and zoning ordinances
- Engaging in speaking with the community through proactive code enforcement
- Investigates citizen complaints regarding possible minimum housing, public nuisance, junked vehicle and zoning violations by performing field inspections
- Inspects development for compliance with any zoning and/or conditional use permit regulations prior to issuance of Certificates of Occupancy
- Conducts systematic inspections of minimum housing, public nuisance, junked vehicles and zoning violations
- Issues required notices of violations in accordance with North Carolina General Statutes, High Point’s Code of Ordinances and Development Ordinance for minimum housing, public nuisance, junked vehicles and zoning ordinance
- Takes necessary corrective action for securing voluntary compliance for local codes that are enforced by this division
- Issues civil penalties for violations not corrected
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective enforcement of City Code regulations.
- Maintain daily records of all activities performed in Accela database
- Ensures that all work performed is in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies
