About The Position

The Non-Attorney Lobbyist is responsible for supporting the Government Relations Group by engaging with elected officials, government staff, and policymakers to advance legislation, public policy, regulatory initiatives, and appropriations that align with clients' interests. This position also assists with related public affairs, advocacy, and government relations activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in government relations, public policy, lobbying, legislative affairs, public affairs, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to serve in a leadership or team lead capacity when appropriate.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent advocacy, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High degree of tact, diplomacy, professionalism, and political awareness.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Goal-oriented with a focus on achieving measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Proficiency with standard business and communication technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of clients' interests and priorities regarding existing and proposed legislation, regulations, and public policy initiatives.
  • Review and analyze legislation, amendments, administrative rules, regulatory proposals, and other policy documents to identify issues affecting clients.
  • Effectively communicate and advocate clients' positions to elected officials, government agencies, legislative staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the positions and activities of other organizations, advocacy groups, and stakeholders on matters impacting clients.
  • Prepare advocacy materials, press releases, informational publications, testimony, presentations, and other communications on behalf of clients.
  • Represent clients, as appropriate, before legislative and executive branch officials, at public hearings, committee and subcommittee meetings, regulatory proceedings, news conferences, and other public forums.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and facilitate meetings between clients and elected officials, policymakers, agency personnel, and legislative staff.
  • Assist clients in responding to regulatory inquiries and government requests for information.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with legislators, policymakers, agency staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with attorneys, lobbyists, and other firm personnel.
  • Accurately record billable and non-billable time, including detailed descriptions of work performed, in accordance with firm policies.
  • Meet annual billable hour expectations of 1,600 hours (prorated for partial years of employment).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
