Requirements

  • 3-5 years of consumer underwriting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of mortgage auditing and quality control process.
  • Ability to multi-task and must be detail oriented.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer underwriting guidelines
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Continued education through selected training courses

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate consumer and home equity loan requests using standard underwriting guidelines to obtain a loan decision and ensure compliance.
  • Mitigate organization risk through appropriate decision making.
  • Ensure the credit union maintains a portfolio of safe and profitable loans.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all credit union and industry underwriting standards.
  • Review, analyze and underwrite all home equity loans and consumer secured and unsecured loan requests.
  • Serve as 2nd level credit review for Home Equity products.
  • Maintain consistent monitoring of Home Equity pipeline to ensure regulatory requirements are being met.
  • Assemble and verify accuracy of closing documentation for loans.
  • Ensure documentation is within all compliance and credit union guidelines.
  • Evaluate real estate appraisals and complex title search issues, along with the ability to interpret income tax returns and other investment income sources.
  • Make recommendations for exception approvals based on factors falling outside the realm of standard underwriting procedures.
  • Proactively counsel and suggest program alternatives to meet the borrower’s needs.
  • Contribute to the credit union’s profitability by making consumer loans which meet standards for economic value and safety.
  • Adhere to all Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for compliance with TILA- RESPA, BSA, OFAC, HMDA, Regulation B, Fair Lending and other regulations, as required.
  • Coach originators, Branch Liaisons, and branch personnel with questions regarding underwriting and product knowledge.
  • Assist with HMDA compliance, including quarterly and annual reviews.
  • Assist Underwriting Manager with monthly reports and 3rd party Vendor monitoring.
